Another paper I contributed to is now publicly available as a pre-print! This paper details design prototyping and testing for the electron detection system of the proposed LUXE experiment.

This detector went through multiple rounds of prototyping and testing. In particular, in late 2024 I had the great pleasure of traveling to SLAC with some of my DESY coworkers to test the latest prototype at the FACET-II facility. Working closely with the accelerator team, we were able to take essential calibration data and even some “parasitic” data during the operation of the E320 experiment. It was an unforgettable experience and a lot of work!

These tests were invaluable to inform the final design of the electron detection system, as the FACET-II facility is in many ways similar to the planned environment for the LUXE experiment. In non-technical terms, the electrons produced at FACET-II have a similar energy, and come in large numbers bunched together–similar to what we expect at LUXE. Furthermore, the E320 experiment has similar physics goals to the planned LUXE experiment, colliding the electron beam with high-intensity laser pulses. Taking data simultaneously with the E-320 experiment gave us a chance to use the detector in the most “realistic” test-run possible.

The technical details can all be found at the link above! Thanks to everyone who worked on this and to the EAJADE program for supporting our trip!
